What to Expect?
We would like to ensure that every person booked on a hunt with us is fully prepared and properly informed for their “hunt of a lifetime”.
We suggest that you read all of the sections dealing with “what to expect?” to be fully informed on all aspects of your trip with us.
Paperwork and Payments
Upon booking, you will need to return to us your contract/reservation form and license information sheet along with your 1/3 per person deposit.
We do not require any other documentation or payments until March 1st the year of your hunt when your 2/3 payment is due. Once your payment has been received and processed, you will be issued an information package sent to you either by email or by regular mail if you prefer. This package will include a re-cap of important details you need to know, a detailed instruction sheet on how to proceed in Montreal, your flight itinerary, and various forms that should be completed and returned to us if they apply to you or your party.
Your 3rd and final payment is due no later than 60 days before your scheduled departure. Please take note that any person or party member who has not paid in full, will not be permitted to board the aircraft to Schefferville / Lac Pau. With the receipt of final payment, you do have the option to request that the non-resident firearm declaration form to be mailed out to you. This form is available for download on our website under “Canadian Firearms Law” and will not be mailed to you unless you request it.
Weather
Basically, your guess is as good as ours! The weather in the sub-arctic is very unpredictable and can change without notice 10 times per day. Depending on when your hunt is scheduled, the weather will vary considerably. For August hunts, you should plan on daytime temperatures in the 50-60’s and nighttime temperatures just above freezing. Please ensure that you have proper protection against black flies and mosquitos. September hunts will see daytime temperatures in the 30-50’s and below freezing temperatures at night. No matter when you are hunting, it is important to always plan for rain/snow and wind. Not having the proper protection against the elements can certainly put a damper on your experience.
Suggestions and Recommendations
For convenience, we recommend that you stay at the Holiday Inn Hotel where our operation is located. You must make reservations beforehand once your travel plans have been finalized. For reservations please call 514-739-3391 and be sure to tell them that you will be hunting with Jack Hume Adventures to take advantage of our special rate.
If you are traveling by air to Montreal, it is recommended that you allow at least 1 day on each end of your trip for the possibility of bad weather. Otherwise, be prepared to pay a penalty fee to your airline for any changes in reservations. The weather in the North is very unpredictable and can cause flight delays. This especially applies to those hunting later in September, but can of course occur during any week of our hunting season.
The airport that you will be arriving at in Montreal is called Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport. Once you arrive, we suggest that you locate the courtesy phone for the Holiday Inn Hotel in order to be picked up by the shuttle bus and brought directly to the hotel.
Every person using a rifle, whether traveling by air or by road must have a completed (but not signed!) Non-Resident Firearms Declaration Form with them when entering Canada. A $25 fee will be charged by Canada Customs for each form on which you can register up to 3 firearms in your name. Do not keep your ammunition in the same case as your firearm and you must remove the bolt or install a locking device on your firearm during transportation. HANDGUNS ARE ILLEGAL IN CANADA.
