10 Good Reasons To Choose Us
- Experience: A 2nd generation family owned and operated business, the Hume’s have been guiding and outfitting caribou hunters since 1972! We have a very select group of employees of which some have been with us for 10-20 years.
- High Ratio of Spare Camps/ Camps Booked: JHA maintains over 25 fully equipped outpost camps. Each camp is strategically located along known migration routes. Only 5 camps are booked each week, leaving 5 spare camps for every camp booked! Should one of our spare camps become productive while another one of our camps slowsdown “hunters are transferred free of charge”.
- Access to both Herds (Leaf River and/or George River): Although there are nearly 1 million caribou in Quebec comprised of two different herds, very few outfitters can actually lay claim to having access to all of these caribou. The truth of the matter is that very few outfitters actually have camps scattered far enough apart to intercept both herds. JHA has just as many camps intercepting the George River herd as the Leaf River herd and we hunt off whichever herd is healthier and more predominate at the time.
- Customer Satisfaction: JHA lays claim to the highest repeat
business in the industry. Over 80% of our clients actually rebook to
hunt with us more than once. Some of our clients have actually
returned as many as 16 times! - Mobility: JHA has a lease on a single engine Otter (6 passenger floatplane)through the largest float plane operator in North America, “Air Saguenay”. If for some reason our Otter is out of service, Air Saguenay is required to replace it within 2 hours. Being that Air Saguenay has many, many aircraft at their disposal this has never been a concern. We also own and operate our very own Cessna 185 floatplane which is piloted by Richard Hume. If a move becomes warranted it can be done without complications.
- Success: Over the past three decades JHA has provided their clients with a success rate 2nd to none averaging over 90% success year after year. Keeping in mind JHA only offers fair chase hunts.
- Owner Operated: Richard’s wife, Amanda not only greets each and every client in Montreal before the charter flight but she actually accompanies hunters to and from the float plane base before and after their hunt. Richard is stationed at the float plane base where he is in constant communication with the camps and actually visits each of the camps throughout the week. Should you have any unanswered questions or enquiries Richard and/or Amanda are always available.
- Safety: Each employee is trained in Wilderness 1st Aid and should an emergency arise while at camp our private Cessna is always available.
- Fair Chase Hunts: Outfitters who do not maintain enough spare camps are often forced to hunt outside their assigned territories (poaching). Their hunters are often dropped off in unauthorized areas given a few hours to shoot a caribou and then flown back to their non productive camps (weather permitting!) for the remainder of their stay. As far as the outfitter is concerned he has fulfilled his obligation. JHA only offers fair chase hunts. Because we have many camps to choose from scattered over such a vast territory most of our hunters can hunt the duration of their stay from a productive camp. Should they harvest a record book caribou they can certainly enter their trophy into the record books knowing that they full well deserve the recognition.
- Price Competitive: Many outfitters who claim to offer similar hunts to JHA don’t have access to both herds, don’t have as high a ratio of spare camps to choose from, don’t have experienced qualified employees, don’t offer fair chase hunts, don’t have the highest repeat business, aren’t owner/operated, and who don’t have as much experience charge similar amounts and in some case even more for their hunts!
